About Project Masoom

Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) is a serious and widespread problem in India, as it is in many parts of the world today. Millions of children across the globe are subject to sexual abuse.

Various studies conducted on child abuse in India, including the one conducted by the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India in 2007, have revealed that more than 53.22% children in the country reported having faced one or more forms of sexual abuse. It also states that boys account for around 53% and girls for 47% of all children reporting abuse in India.

Also technology has made it easier for abusers to connect with potential child victims. In a global compilation of reports by National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), India tops the list on child sexual abuse material (CSAM), with 11.7% of the total reports or 19.87 lakh reports. Children and adolescents are vulnerable in the digital and virtual world, where they can be subjected to online sexual abuse. The cyber space has no boundaries, and the offensive content can originate from any country.

Yi's Project Masoom was conceived to spread awareness about Child Sexual Abuse (CSA), and advocate prevention of Child Sexual Abuse. The objective is to empower children, create attentive adults, train teachers for capacity building, advocate CSA prevention policies in schools to create safer school environments, and engage with government for advocating policy reforms.

Since 2015, the helping hands of 3900+ strong Yi members across 55 city chapters in 24 States and 4 Union Territories in India, have enabled Project Masoom, to impact million lives though more than 2800 activities.
